Eco travelling: tips to become an eco tourist

Eco holidays are associated chiefly with nature landmarks and destinations where you are close to the wildlife. How do you become an eco traveller? To be a true eco traveller, you need to think as such and feel the pulse of the nature. First, let us warn you that you should not choose your eco holiday, simply because such journeys have become so fashionable these days. As human beings, we should realize that the minimal impact our travelling has on the nature is what would preserve it for generations to come. Yes, you can explore, feel, touch a new culture, but always mind the environmental tolerance and compromise.

Eco holidays are not those advertised in most websites. Eco tourism is related to responsible travel. So, first tip to become an eco tourist is to realize that your journey is eco-friendly when you become a vital part of the tourism industry and follow the concepts that have the power to change the way the world is explored.
There are a couple of myths about eco tourism, let’s take a look at them.

If you think this kind of travel is not for you, because it is too expensive or you find it very difficult to go without many things, then think again. First myth is that you have to sacrifice quality and luxury accommodation. Come on, don’t be foolish, the reality is that many lodges, hotels and BB guest houses combine environmental standards and at the same time provide great services. Eco accommodation is all about sustainability and following certain concepts rather than being frenetic about the lack of amenities (come on, you don’t image a house without water to take a shower, do you?).

Second myth is that eco holidays are expensive. Responsible tours and accommodation all over the world serve different price ranges, so you will find from budget to luxury ones and you can find what best suits your preferences or budget.

Another myth that I find funny is that it’s very difficult to travel and take care of the environment. Eco tourism is evolving and thanks to the Internet, you can find information, key points, tips for a specific destination and everything that allows you to keep the environment around you clean and still beautiful.

Once you handle these preconceptions, there is no reason to think about your next trip and take on the responsibility to make our planet more beautiful while explore and keep every single landmark on your way. Being an eco tourist, you should be good at planning. It is important to make decisions before you have enough information.
Choose the destinations that you would like to explore, think about types of lodgings and look for some travel operators who may better handle your trip, depending on your requirements.

To assess an operator or the hotel that you would like to book online, always look for quality certificates. Make sure that they have labels or awards for their level of sustainability. The best known are AAA or 5-star system that are provided by independent audit programs.

Eco holidays are not all about the general concept. We would advise you to contribute to the development of the local community. For this purpose, you should simply research before you visit your holiday destination and then once you are there, we advise you to seek assistance from local people and why not become a part of a community project. Don’t hesitate to hire a local guide, book a tour with a local agency, try everything that locals make to assure yourself that your money is spent well in place.

To enjoy your eco holiday, don’t let yourself be fooled. There are many resorts that pretend to follow eco concepts and take the full advantage of advertising themselves as eco, but they are not. In all instances, just do not trust and always be attentive to become a part of the truly sustainable tourism instead of the craze which is created and maintained just as a hook for tourists.
